Heather Howland

Post by Thai Monkey on Tue May 19, 2009 2:41 pm

Hey there everyone!

Well its been 4 years since Heather, my wife, had her brain haemorrhage and 4 years since I first posted about this on GTs forum!

Life for us has been a series of massive ups and downs. I am talking extreme highs and extreme lows! We have not been sitting idle during this time and have put a lot of time and effort into raising awareness of brain injury and its associated problems. We have done interviews in newspapers, live tv, documentary, research projects with Cambridge University UK and Harvard University in the U.S. Our latest venture has been a video for the NHS to highlight personality changes following brain injury (link below.

http://www.nhs.uk/video/pages/medialibrary.aspx?Page=1&Filter=&Id={D095EF23-B14E-4CA9-A6DB-1490147F68A9}&Tag=&Uri=video%2f2009%2fMay%2fPages%2fPersonalitychangerealstory.aspx

As you can probably tell its not been an easy road for Heather, Louis and myself.

Still life goes on as they say.

So here we are, if any of you who read this could take the time out to send Heather a message on the 21st of this month it would make her day. Its not an easy time for her but to recieve some positive messages of support would make it easier!!

Her email is heatherhowland@hotmail.com.

Come on lads n lasses how much effort could it take?

Cheers

Andy

Will do mate.
Excellent work with raising awareness, alot of people dont understand how much peoples personality changes after brain injury, love, hate, Food, smells, likes, dislikes. everything can change.

My Girlfriend had a RTA in 2005, luckily her personality has not changed much, she has less patience, aggressive at times, she lets her kids get away with things now where as before, no way would she and other simpler things like eating habits fave foods and that.

Fair play to you both for not giving up and staying positive, alot of people would fall at the first hurdle
Excellent work with the video.

All the best
Take care
Davey

Hi Andy,

Mine will be on it's way also as I sympathize with you as my wife has huntington's disease - my way of handling it is by taking 1 second at time, then 1 minute, then 1 hour then 1 day and so on

Love to you both
Tony. T
