Self Protection Classess Empty Self Protection Classess

Hello all, not been on here for a while sorry!

I have been asked by a few people now to run a local Self Defence/Protection class; I have done the training applied it a lot and have taught it as part of my Jujitsu classes for a while now but never to members of the public.

I have looked into this and I am CRB clear, First Aid trained and have teaching experience but I have read a lot on the internet in relation to the running of such classes in particular Health and Safety; can anyone expand on this please; I know I will need aditional insurance, what parts of the Health and Safety law should i be aware of?

    Thank You Very Happy

    Congrats on the course mate

You'll definitely need Public Liability Insurance but this is pretty cheap to pick up for a year's insurance
You will have to show evidence of your qualifications though - just to help validate your level of experience in this arena

Apart from that, depending on who you will be teaching will govern what level of CRB check you have in place.
Enhanced is always worth considering but I think this is only required if teaching and working with children or vulnerable people - although, I am no authority on this - there are others on here who are more qualified in this area I am sure.

Seems like you have everything else in place.
Health and Safety then comes down alot to doing your risk assessments and pay due diligence to being sensible in the training and the way you teach it

    Good luck with the courses

I think Al has pretty much summed things up for you.

I would just like to confirm that public liability insurance, in date first aid certificate and proof of qualifications that shows you can teach, is enough to get your classes started.

It does help if your training provider for your qualification has an insurance company that recognises your certificate. I am unsure of the ins an outs of this, it is just something one of my training providers told me. If the insurance company does not recognize your qualification they will be happy to take your money but should an incident occur then they may try to use that as a way of not paying out. Just something to look further into.
