floor to ceiling bag Empty floor to ceiling bag

    Post by D.Hughes Fri Dec 26, 2008 9:07 pm

i've been considering investing in one of these, but i have a few questions:

    1) i have never used one before. should i find someone with one and have a go first? looks fun, and productive, but i would have no idea where to start training with one. is it simple? or is it quite a complicated way of training when you dont have a clue?

    2) how much space does it require? i have my bag in the corner of my gym room, with about 2-3ft of space between the bag and the walls. would the F2C bag need to go in the middle of the room? because i need the floor space for grappling etc, so a permanent hook screwed into the floor would probably be bad news when sparring on the floor Shocked

    3) any instructionals available to get me started?

    4) anything else you think i should know/consider?

thanks to anyone that can help Very Happy

You can sink a screwable hook hole in the floor and unscrew the floor hook and cover it when not in use. I think you will need more space hence the screwable hook hole for the middle of your room.

They are tricky little buggers to start with but like anything persaverence is the key. The more you use it the better you will become.

Best to start of by throwing the jab maybe 50 each side altnating for 30 mins on the spot. when you get this progress to double jabb then go back to single jab and add a cross do the same alternating routine.

Then when you have this the go back to just the cross, again alternating.

when you have all these done and you can hit the ball consitently start again but now with movement throwing left jab as you go to the left and right jab as you go to the right .

Then double jab then jab crosses then just start mixing it up.

The more time you spend with it the quicker you will get better.
once you have it though you wont lose it...

The more you use it the sharper you become ..the less you use it the less sharp you become

    thanks Pete.
not keen on screwing and unscrewing all the time. i train on bare floorboards, and i think after time it would pop out, or the hole would degrade with too much usage etc.

is there any way i could put in some kind of hollow, threaded, metal fixing sunk into the floor that i could screw a hook or w/e into?

think Tony T would be the man to answer this. ever fashioned anything like that mate?

anyone else know where i can get something like that?

thats what i ment rock you put the screw hole into the ground then screw in your hook to attach the ball elastic to. Takes about ten seconds to screw in everytime you use it. You can but thezse type of fixtures ready made.

Lonsdale also produce a weight disc with a hook, you attach the elastic from the speed ball to the hook removing the need to screw anything into your floor boards.

They also sell a cheaper version which you feel with sand. Hope that helps Rick.

    Hi Rick

Weight discs work fine if you don't want to fix anything to the floor.

Just get a 20kg plate and tie some rope through it to make a loop.
Then use a carabina (or however they're spelt fitting to snap your elastic to it whenever you need.

I use the top'n'bottom (floor to ceiling) ball all the time.

I was told by an old pro boxer when I was very young that, in his opinion, it was the next best bit of training equipment to a real partner. Everytime you hit it, it comes back in a slightly different angle, forcing you to adjust each punch

As Peter said, start with straight punches - find you rhythm

Don't worry about hitting it hard or heavy - that's not what it's for.

Once you can keep it going in a straight line with straight punches then you are on your way.

Start adding hooks and get it spinning.

When you can take it from a circular hook motion and get it going back straight again, then you've cracked it

I alternate rounds with a heavy bag and a top 'n' bottom ball - makes for a good session.

    Good luck with it mate

Wil get back to you tomorrow with some training dates for Jan
