Question is what are the best methods of dealing with verbal aggression/intimidation tactics from supervisors/managers in any working environment?

pet hate of mine too esther, saying no to them in front of witnesses often helps, or even simple stuff like `please don`t speak to me like that`. It sounds almost childlike but it can`t be challenged and as long as you don`t swear or shout you can`t be in trouble.
Past that its a grievance procedure which can either work a treat or end up with you getting moved and there are so many things behind the scenes that you really don`t know how it will pan out. Simple things like managers who are mates, golfing partners, etc etc and you only find out after you`ve been shuffled off somewhere.

keeping a log of whats been said and when is useful because it helps no end when people say `and when was that?` and you pull out a pack of info rather than going all hot and trying to remember details.
and theres rucks of stuff on the net about all this but the andrea adams trust deals with workplace bullying, as does ACAS.
I try to convince myself that they do it in the workplace because they`ve got a cr*p life outside, but maybe they just do it because they can get away with it?

    Bullies. Grrr. Can`t stand them.

agreed mate, bullying isn`t limited to `give us your dinner money` anymore, and no matter how old you get you shouldn`t be subjected to pressure or threats.
One advantage of todays technology is that everything is traceable so if someone`s been stupid enough to issue threats on a text, email or anything in writing you should keep hold of it because it would be invaluable should you wish to involve a union in work, or the police outside of it.
