we have the announcements section for that kind of thing, so long as its kept informative rather than sales pitch like.
to be honest, if you put a section in for promotional uses, it would more than likely become known as a "spam" section, and be ignored. this way, its about the news of the release etc, and not about promotion that could be considered spam, and will reach more people because of that approach.

i think if we let people advertise it will attract more members i dont mind keeping an eye on it to keep the crap out.
