Rubber bands are good as is any form of progressive resistance training.. but no real reason for posting this, just that it made me smile
when I first started training in 1961 I used bicycle inner tubes from the bike tyres as strands.. then progressed to a proper set of both steel and rubber strands
The first weights club I went (1962), had both solid and disc weights, home made weights, home made squat racks etc, and plenty of kette-bells..
Now bands and kettle bells are back in fashion
basically your body doesnt know the differences between two 10kgs buckets of small stones and two solid gold 10kgs dumbells. Its just resistance .. thats all
we made concrete weights by pouring concrete into circular moulds in the soils, pushed a toilet roll tube into the wet concrete, and when it dried we had some very usuable discs for our bars.
The great former shot-putter of the 1960's Arthur Rowe won most of his championships using a lump of concrete in a field behind a pub carpark.
A former Mr Britain & Class 3 Mr Universe trained at our gym in Heywood, name of Graham Brogden (1980 Mr Britain) used as well as 'proper' weights, lump of lead, stone, cast iron pieces etc.. still won the titles though
sorry guys just wandering into my memory banks..
Oh yes.. bands are good
