Hi all some of you are my friends on facebook but due to the fact that facebook in my opinion is a place produtive of much negativite and groups such as "dead babys make me laugh" and such like i am deleteing all my accounts from there. I will be contactable on here though and soon through my new website. I think the place is takinng people from out of the real world and into some kind of false reality.... You dont have to understand i just thought id let you know if you wondered why im not on your friends lists anymore...I have left a message up for a couple of days on there it says... Gone to achieve my dreams you should try it!...

Re: FaceBook im outta there!
Dude you don't have to join or look at those type of groups (I don't). And if someone is sending these request to join simply drop them as a friend.
it's the internet and you are going to get that type of thing everywhere.
That being said, I fully support your decision. If you feel uncomfortable somewhere why stay there. Personally I find face book quite a positive place, the trick is to remove yourself from the negative element and build a network of positive like minded people.
I'll see you here anyway dude

Re: FaceBook im outta there!
I know exactly where you're coming from Pete.
Will keep in touch through here and via the phone - that thing where people actually get to speak to each other in person
Start chasing those dreams mate - once you start going after them you'll be surprised at how slow they move and you'll be catching up with them before you know it.
Take care
Al

Re: FaceBook im outta there!
I know what you mean about false reality.
I know a few people that have had problems online on FaceBook that have spilt over into real life. It scares me & I want nothing to do with it.
To be honest I even feel a bit uncomfortable posting on here because I think I should actually BE training with the time I'm online, not talking or writing about training. Or maybe I'm just afraid of putting myself out there, my thoughts & opinions.
I'm a technophobe though, I admit it (the first step) & I am trying to expand into this world wide web, thus starting posting.

Re: FaceBook im outta there!
I think it's all about balance. There's lots of great stuff to read on-line, lots of informaiton that can help us to grwo. We just have to be switched on enough to be selective over what we immerse ourselves in and how much time we spend on it.
I try to train far more than I spend on-line but I make sure that the time I spend on-line is focused on gathering great inspiration, education and ideas that can help my training - and having a laugh at the same time.
The minute it starts to get negative or destructive, I'm off - just like Peter

Re: FaceBook im outta there!
the key thing with the interwebs is how and what you use it for. I only check emails and this forum. I use it for research now and then but alot of information is uncredited unless you know where to look you can be told all sorts of crap that sounds true but isn't if you get what i mean.

Re: FaceBook im outta there!
TBH I spent lots of time on various forums etc where I was constantly being attacked over my belief systems, which is why I pulled out of everything and am back to the BoCafe and here.

Re: FaceBook im outta there!
My expression for the whole internet culture thing is "Cyborg Nation". I definitely feel that the more we interface and use machines as mediums the more we become like them. A few years ago I went into London and it struck me that there were just these droves of people all wearing the same clothes (hipsters at the time) and with bluetooths in their ear. Years later I saw the same thing replicated on Dr. Who!
My argument is that technology, like money, should work for you and not the other way around. Myspace, Facebook, Beebo and internet forums are excellent places to promote my work and services, and this is the primary purpose for my presence on them. Having said that, of course it is nice to catch up and keep in contact with friends and I have also met friends through the internt. The internet is also great for research, as Al pointed out, and I certainly prefer it for my Christmas shopping! It's all a case of moderation and being in control. I never have a problem with prolonged periods away from the 'net and that's the key.
What does concern me, apart from the way that people are willing to offer heartfelt advice to a complete stranger on the other side of the world and yet are not bothered that next door's milk is piling up, is the way that your life starts to become public property. For example, my daughter was born in October and straight away I was expected to put up photos of the baby all over Facebook. It just seems like madness that this is the expected thing to do. I have no problems with anyone else doing this, but for me private life is just that, private. Perhaps it is tied up with the "celebrity" culture that still seems to be dominating too many of our values these days i.e. I want everyone to know exactly what brand of toilet paper I will be using. Coming from a showbusiness family and having worked in various entertainment industries for most of my life, I guess it makes me value that privacy more.
