also How do you go about becoming a member of the BCA can you do it as an individual or do you have to be part of an affiliated Association?

I was a senior BCA official for several years until I started my own organisation in 2000..
then grades in the BCA were unknown, they 'accepted' other grades from the outside, and would grade Dan grades up.. for example I personally had no gradings from the BCA but they acknowledged the ones I had already and issued certification to ratify them.

there is actually to my knowledge (although I havent had much contact since 2000) any actual BCA 'syllabus' as such.. therefore its hard to organise gradings .. hence one of the reasons I left to start the SDF which has several grading syllabi including the SDF self-defence system.

joining the BCA used to be for clubs only, but I believe they now accept individuals...

Pete C is a corking combat man and an excellent administrator, and Geoff is legendary.. I had the privelage of teaching Geoff (and some of his guys ) for a few years.. used to love the sunday morning sessions I taught at the AT7, some great people..

however, just google the BCA and get on their website I believe you will find the answers there

Al should be able to answer you anyway, my info may be a bit out of date

If you want to be affilated as an instructor or an club you have to first have your sylibus approved by peter c.

Ahh, in that case then youll have to train with a bca affilated club. But this too can be a difficult choice depending on what you want to learn cause as dave rightly says they are not all the same sylibus...You should phone peter c on the number i gave you dave and ask his advice.I do think you should go to Al peasland as your in coventry he can grade you as he is a 5th dan with the BCA.
