I wish you luck with this forum, because so many MA and SD forums have turned into bear pits over the years. I hope I can contribute something worthwhile.

Hi Everyone
My name's Steve Rowe and I teach Karate and Tai Chi from a full time Centre in Chatham Kent. Some of you know me because I'm old and have been growing dust for a number of years.

Hi Steve
Hi Steve, quite a combination of karate and tai chi like, sounds interesting. What style of Tai Chi do you teach? I'm currently learning Hunyuan Tai Chi at my local community centre. Have you heard of it?

I teach Yang style, I learned mainly from Jim Uglow in the UK and Ma Lee Yang (Yang Sau Chung's daughter) in Hong Kong. Never heard of Hunyuan, if you enjoy it - that's all that matters really.

I'm busy learning the Beijing 24 forn at the moment in class. http://www.hunyuantaiji.co.uk/ this is the website for the guy that taught my teacher. His name is Master Ma, and he is amazingly powerful.
Do u use the self defence aspects of tai chi or the health?

Re: Hi Everyone
Hi Mark
Both. The real health benefits only come from the self defence aspects. I teach a lot of police/security personnel and I'd say that 90% of what I teach to them is pure Tai Chi. From the SD knowledge they gain they almost always want to go on and learn the forms, push hands and weapons.

Re: Hi Everyone
I'm also thinking of trying the guy from this website http://www.dynamicbalancingtaichi.co.uk/, he has a sylibus for beginners to advanced.
Teaches either the self defence and health or both.

Re: Hi Everyone
Interesting website but vague on instructors background and lineage etc...
The SD gives the health, it's difficult to separate them.
Be interested to hear how you get on.

Re: Hi Everyone
The guy from that website was taught by the Austrailian Tai Chi instructor, think his name is Earl Montaigue.

Okay, he's a very controversial figure, but plays guitar extremely well.
