Should everyone learn some form of self defence? Empty Should everyone learn some form of self defence?

Hi I’ve been researching different self defence classes to find out which one I should join and I couldn’t believe how many self defence classes there were in my area I guess with all high memberships and paying good money to go. The media is constantly bombarding us with stories of violent confrontation and I myself have noticed a rise in violence on Saturday nights in town. It just seems to me that the people who aren’t learning how to defend themselves have got their heads in the sand. What do you think?

    Good point mate.

It's a fact that we are all responsible for our own personal security, so Self Defence classes are something that everyone should at least consider.

However, whilst there are lots out there with big memberships, you'll also find lots which are still teaching stuff which simply will not work.
Certainly stuff that won't work for the average student who just wants to spend a couple of hours each week training.

And, even with all the latest information we need, only the touch of a button away, most classes are still not teaching the most important aspects of self protection which is Awareness and Avoidance.
Sure, they all pay lip service to it, but it's the most vital part, in my opinion. Because if you do that right, the physical skills are no longer required - or at least, won't be required anywhere near as often.

The physical training then becomes something different.

As has been said in the past, by me and by others. The physical element of self defence training can be alikened to teaching your child to roll over bonnets of cars. Whereas the awareness and avoidance training is how we teach our children to cross the road safely by avoiding the traffic.

But, to answer your question, Yes, definitely everyone should consider some form of self defence training.
