Long hair and fighting Empty Long hair and fighting

Post by Mr Natural Mon Feb 22, 2010 4:46 pm

I used to love having long hair, but when I started training I shaved it off as it quickly became clear that it would be a big disadvantage in a fight - getting in your face, easy to grab etc.

I like it though and not keen on having to get haircuts. This may be clutching at straws but anyone train with long hair...found any ways to make it safer in a fight?

I had long hair for seven years and it was never a problem with my training, I used to tie it back in a tight ponytail and it never really got in the way.

In terms of it being a disadvantage in a fight, theoretically it could be but how much of an issue that is depends on a) how many fights you're planning to get into and b) how good or bad your game is.

If you like wearing your hair long then wear it long mate, if you get into a fight then shit happens - fight with long hair and just be better than he is.

well although I agree with you, when I worked the doors in the 70's nearly everyone had long hair. I rarely saw many fights where people actually grabbed it or used it.

I cant see the worry about it though. If you take away the physical stuff I got into on the doors, I have been involved in less than a dozen real street fights, and thats in nearly 50 years training.

I once tied a drug dealer I had choked out working in a night club.. I tied his hair to a small water pipe as we had no cuffs or anything til the 'boys in blue' arrived.

unless you think you are going to be fighting weekly.. wear your hair how you want

Thanks for the thoughts. I might give it a go...easy enough to cut it off again!

I don't get into a lot of fights, but there's something about knowing your prepared. If I do it, I think I'll look into a good headband or something to wear out so hair won't get in my face.
