Re: what do you do?
mmmm....what do I do? Well i haven't had a proper job in 25 years. I'm a trained actor, was a stand up comic on the London circuit for 12 years, teach Muay Thai, Self Protection and I am also one of Richard Bandlers NLP Trainers. I enjoy building Motorcycles and taking them apart. I have 2 books published with 4 on the way, thanks to Paladin Press and my novel is almost done. I wrote for Combat and Traditional Karate for well over 10 years and am now producing 2 TV Programmes.
It sounds like work but trust me it's not. Oh and I run a Survival and Military Training Company SAS Survival. If I get time I shall take up Plastering so look out Mr Tully!

Hi all I am starting a college course on sept 8th in movie production. I run a community exercise centre that has many different claases for self defence/protection, MMA, kickboxing and traditional arts. I also run courses for under privillaged kids in the fighting arts. I love writing scripts, i am only just learning my craft but i love it.
I also used to be a plasterer i'd get plastered on a friday a saturday a sunday afternoon and on a monday when it was only a pound a pint

Re: what do you do?
I am a Quantity Surveyor...(queue the rush of people out of the door / away from the forum when I start to talk about my job).
Apart from advising on / managing building costs and the best way to procure them we QS's (who are slightly more efficient than accountants as we can empty a room of reasonable people more quickly) spend a lot of our time seeing everything as too expensive.
Next step for me though is to learn more about sustainability / low energy buildings etc which is paramount
Tim - On another note I think I dealt with your guys recently. They were so good they gave me a price for a job by looking at the site on Google Earth, awesome! I didn't have to leave my desk, visit site or even pay for coffee...

Re: what do you do?
Jobs eh
Well I've done a quite a few different things, amongst them I've owned and run my own graffiti specialist retail store, I'm a graffiti artist who does the occassional bit of commission work, doing a limited edition tee for Smirnoff was probably the biggest (pain in the arse) commission I've had and I've been working on one for Caged Steel for a while which may turn up eventually . I now teach AMC on a Sunday and work the doors full time.
I'm just considering whether to go back to uni as well?

Re: what do you do?
My current job is an International Partner and Services Co-ordinator – which is a posh title for building partnerships with engineering organisations all over the world (and of course going to see them ), working closely with Cisco and one very large telecommunication company (whose name I can’t say or I would have to kill you all!)
Started life as a teacher – so yep all who know me I will put you all on detention! I then decided that teaching was way too hard and I had to be nice to people ALL the time, which was not working for me! Plus you can’t hit children so no fun at all really . But worked in IT as a website developer (the hard way before dreamweaver etc was created!), moved into Project Management, owned my own organisation with 2 others and also worked closely with Microsoft, Oracle, SAS, IBM building relationships. Best job in previous life - was working in a pub!

Re: what do you do?
When I'm not teaching I'm a production director at a contact lens manufacturing facility 4-days of the week. We manuafacture contact lenses for corrective purposes and also for all the major films.
Past characters/films include Darth Maul (Star Wars), X-men, Wolf, Blade II, Mission Impossible I, II, III, Angel, Buffy, Seven, Interview With A Vampire, 12 Monkeys, plus many more, and also for Prodigy, Bjork, Micheal Jackson, etc, etc.
We also make vetinery lenses for Horses, Cats, Dogs and have also made them for a Hawk, Owl, Camel, Donkey, Elephant and a Lion.
And in my spare time I research crashed aircraft from WWII, which crashed within a 15-mile radius of my home town, of which I now have over 400 on record, mainly Vickers Wellington's, with a crew of 5 and with an average age of 21. http://www.aviationresearch.co.uk
Once I have located a crash site I note it's position with GPS, research the crash itself (causes, etc), research the crew and then contact living relatives with my research. (I do not dig and have no interest in digging up MOD property and a War Grave.) I've had relatives come from all over the world to visit a crash site and pay their respects. I spend many hours a week conducting my research (at my cost, traveling up and down the M1 to the Public Records Office, Kew, and to the RAF Museum at Hendon) and all given to the families for free.
Lest We Forget
Garth.

Re: what do you do?
Well, I work for a Lighting company in Birmingham.
Not having a contract of employment, I kinda have a few different roles which include -
Luminaire Designer (Office & industrial Lights) using 3D CAD (Inventor)
Machine Programmer from my PC (CADCAM Software)
I.T. (soon as they break it I have to fix it)
Sometimes they will call on me for some Graphic Design, (not so much these days)
Oh yer hand holding too, cos it seems alot of the office staff cant make a decision on there own(or maybe its just waving responsibility)

Re: what do you do?
Welcome to my world Davey.
I work in Formula 1, the "pinnacle of engineering" apparently!
I look after the design office working on Unigraphics NX as their CAD/CAM Specialist.
I seem to spend the majority of my day hand holding, massaging shoulders and generally changing the nappies of alot of highly qualified engineers who would rather ask for help immediately than try to figure it out themselves and ask for help as a last resort.
But that is human nature and I love the work. I'm almost a counsellor to some of them and I just see the role as a challenge of my own strength and patience.
Whilst me fixing their problems may not teach them how to fix it themselves, I'm learning alot and mostly about human behaviour not engineering or IT
