yes your right,we are all right. If awreness and avoidence should be the first thing taught by any good sp instructor. But that is only part of SP.
You also have to take into consideration why people are teaching it.
So others dont have to go through what they had to?(Not by choice most of the time) Also they may have changed because of what they have been through.

A good football coach can go to college and get al the certificates without playing a game in compettion, do you think he would be in the top flight.

Its all a bit rocky verses drago the russian.
    Good topic though.

great topic..... and i do understand and respect everyones point of view.

Peter, you used the builder example, ..... so i will. i do think it is unfortunate that the new builder is being taught not to get experienced in building a million pound house but essentially is told that he could if he had too by relying on erm.......training and faith, but we would still prefer the experienced guy.

this also reminds me about something a very well known fighter said on a different forum.... i quote (closely i hope) ...." since when did having lots of fights and being a doorman become the gold standard".

    food for thought.

Why do people keep referring to doormen. I think 90% are crap and useless at there jobs. Most of em can't fight and have zero negotiation skills alot of em don't even train.
This is about self protection not standing on the doors.

Yes les you are right, the guy who would be taught by the master builder would be incredibly good. but If he goes through the expearience of being the labourer, the hodman, the bricky, logistics, on site he will know how the other brickies will treat him etc etc as well how good would he be then?

    Better i feel.

Great topic with some great replies..
I agree NO you don't have to have had 300 plus fights to be a great instructor, as long as the stuff your teaching works.
If I lived 300 miles away from my instructor Dave Turton then would I go to one of his instructors (who had no or little real experience) who lived 3 miles away? YES...because his methods work and have been tried and tested.
On the other hand if Dave lived 15 miles away not 300 it would be him I sought instruction out because he is more experienced.
    Hope this makes sense !
PS I am lucky enough to live 5 miles from Dave I was just using him as an example!

I think then the general consenses is; to be a good instructor you ned to have had a great teacher. To be a great teacher you need to have expearienced what you are teaching first hand. Yes/no?
