Not sure about the actual title of the clip on youtube, but watched this with some dissappointment in the obvious difficulty the officers had restraining this guy.
Do you think this is because these officers were trying to restrain the individual in the manner they have been taught? Differently because they were being filmed? or simply because they haven't practised their restraint techniques enough.
It looked to me like they were too busy trying to get their cuffs, radio for backup and reach for their pepper sprays than actually gaining physical control over the individual.
Could this be an example of what happens when you have too many options at your disposal perhaps?
Take away their cuffs, radios, batons, pepper sprays, etc, they would have had no option but to take the guy down and sit on him!
More and more I watch these fly-on-the-wall documentarys and see just how much of a struggle the officers have with restraining individuals - often needing 3 or 4 of them to control one person. I appreciate that to restrain someone safely may take more than one officer, but isn't it time we let our coppers get a little more "forceful" or at least give them the techniques so that they can decide for themselves?
After all, if these two officers struggled with one lightweight guy, what would have happened if his mate decided to jump in, or if the officer was on the beat on his own?
worrying!
