Here's a good example of just how quick a concealed knife can be deployed,

i hope the a55hole gets done for attempted murder, there is only one reason why he pulled that knife and that was to attack the officer.

    Absolutely -

Is there anything with the standard procedure that the officer should have done differently?

Search the individual whilst still cuffed?

SHould the individual have been searched before being brought into the station? I'm presuming he's been arrested and brought in via a car or van - but obviously just an assumption.

Obviously, searching is difficult if the suspect is still cuffed but would have made it safer

I am not aware of the standard operating procedure - but perhaps someone on here can help?

Yes I hope he got a good sentence for that.

Suspects who have been arrested should always be searched after their arrest. This power is given under PACE and should be normal practice for every police officer. A more thorough search can then be carried out in custody

the more i think about it the more of an expert in hindsight i become Very Happy its easy to make assumptions, and after reading the other answers..

surely he should have been searched more thoroughly at the scene of the crime?
he must have been sitting in the back of the police car like that !!
keeping him cuffed until searched should be mandatory ?

it also showed realistic defence in a very tight area, i applaud the officer because he could not have done anything else than control the armed arm. a second later in his reaction and it would have been very bloody.

makes me feel a bit sick actually if i'm honest,

only two assumptions to make about an attacker........... they could be armed , they could have friends close by.

Yeah - definitely great reaction by the initial Police Officer.

Whatever we can comment after the fact about keeping him cuffed and potential body language warning signs - etc etc - blah blah
There's no doubt that the office reacted very very swiftly and did absolutely the right thing
Grab the knife arm - close the guy down to effectively pin him so he can't move

The second officer to grab the suspects arm was also really well timed

A good job in a dangerous situation for sure

    clap

I'm surprised they still took the cuffs off for the search as his previous "carrying consealed weapon, racist violence, volatile schizophrenic etc etc" were mentioned before the cuffs were removed. Surely that would have sent alarm bells ringing?? But still, a text book example of defense in an enclosed space. Lucky guy! thumbsup

They were easy on him. Some cops would have used taser on him. And yes, what's with taking the cuffs off?

Anyway, the policeman is really good, and I guess luck was still on his side.
