Hi all. I'm a bit confused by all the wealth of things you can do to train for combat fitness, and not sure how to put together a programme I can fit into my week.
I have done a basic free weights programme for a couple of months. Squat, Deadlift, Bench, Bent over row, OH press, Bicep curl. 3*12 reps. I've got bigger and keen to move on to the next level. Aerobic and sprinting is not so hot, but have been for the odd run up to 10k.
So in terms of strength training, I suppose I need to do a strength phase and reduce the reps, but what about all the rest of it? I have a job like most of us so trying to make it as efficient as possible.
Aerobic fitness
Sprints/HIIT
Grip training
Muscular endurance
Plyometric
Specific core workouts
Exercises for specific movements e.g. for striking or pulling
That's what I can think of. And then you have the different tools you can use like odd objects, kettlebells etc. Would you periodize that lot?
I have made a sandbag which seems useful for working grip and core, and also the core will be worked by strength training on the weights anyway.
Any thoughts?
